IB Middle Years Programme (IBMYP)

The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) emphasises intellectual challenge, encouraging students ages 11-16 to make connections between their studies in traditional subjects and the real world. It fosters the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding and global engagement—essential qualities for young people who are becoming global leaders.

The MYP’s curriculum framework comprises eight subject groups, providing a broad and balanced education for early adolescents. Service in Action is an integral part of learning in the MYP. In the final year of the programme, students complete a Personal Project - an in-depth research project through which students apply what they’ve learned an development new skills in an individual inquiry into a globally-significant topic of interest.

The MYP builds upon the knowledge, skills and attitudes developed in the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and prepares students to meet the academic challenges of the IB Diploma Programme (DP) and the IB Career-related Programme (CP) and other advanced academic courses of study.

IB MYP Certificate

At the end of the programme’s Year 5/ Grade 10, optional eAssessments provide opportunities for students to attain prestigious IB awards and externally-validate learning outcomes in the middle years. The MYP certificate requires students successfully to complete 2 hour on-screen examinations in four subjects as well as interdisciplinary learning; submit ePortfolios in language acquisition and either design, arts or physical and health education; complete a externally-moderated personal project; and meet learning objectives for service as action (community service).

IB MYP Course results are internationally-recognised qualifications that celebrates achievement, and it can inform decisions about further study and provide additional evidence to support university admissions.
